When monolithic zirconia is highly polished, laboratory and clinical studies generally show it causes little wear on opposing enamel, often less than rough or glazed porcelain. The risk rises if the surface of zirconium crowns is left rough after adjustments. That is why your dentist polishes the crown carefully after any bite adjustment and may recommend a night guard if you grind your teeth.
Yes, zirconia is one of the most common crown materials on implants. The crown is fitted on the second implant trip, once the implant has integrated with the bone, usually after 3 to 6 months.
