A tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) removes excess skin and fat from the lower abdomen and tightens the tummy wall. Most full tummy tucks also repair diastasis recti, the gap between the stomach muscles. It is not a weight-loss operation. For every technique in detail, see our abdominoplasty options guide.

Loose skin around the sides and back? An extended or fleur-de-lis approach may suit you, covered on our abdominoplasty page. After a C-section, read about hanging belly after a C-section.
Most patients after pregnancy or weight loss need a full tummy tuck. A mini suits only a small pouch of loose skin below the belly button. Your surgeon recommends the type after examining you.

For loose skin above and below the belly button, and a muscle gap.
For a small pouch of skin below the belly button only.
Some patients also benefit from liposuction of the flanks at the same time.
The operation takes 2–5 hours under general anaesthesia in an accredited partner hospital. The scar is planned to sit low, within most underwear.
Marked while you stand, so the scar sits low.
General anaesthesia, given by an anaesthesiologist.
Low across the abdomen; a small second one frees the belly button.
Separated muscles are stitched together to firm the wall.
Excess skin and fat removed; belly button brought through naturally.
Layered closure, drains if used, and a compression garment.
Your exact schedule is confirmed with your plan. Most full tummy tuck patients are cleared to fly around day 10.
Day 1
Your coordinator meets you at the airport, and a private VIP transfer takes you to your hotel.
Day 2
You meet your plastic surgeon, confirm the markings and have tests. Surgery follows the same day if all is in order.
Days 3–8
One or two hospital nights, then hotel rest with short walks. Your surgeon checks the incision and removes any drains.
Days 9–10
Dressings are changed and you receive written aftercare. Your surgeon confirms you are fit to fly.

Drains, if used, remove fluid in the first days and lower the risk of seroma. You wear a compression garment for about six weeks. Our tummy tuck recovery in Turkey guide has more practical detail.
Every tummy tuck leaves a scar; the aim is one that is low, even and discreet. Once the wound has closed, usually after two to three weeks, silicone gel or sheets are often advised. Protect the scar from the sun for the first year.
Expect a flatter, firmer stomach and a narrower waist. Stretch marks on the removed skin go; those above it remain. Results last if your weight stays stable, but pregnancy or large weight gain can stretch the skin again.

We do not publish a set figure, because tummy tucks differ widely. A surgeon reviews your photos first, and the consultation is free. For more detail, read about tummy tuck costs in Istanbul.

A tummy tuck is major surgery, and every patient is screened before surgery is confirmed. Our guide to tummy tuck side effects covers each risk in more depth.

Sometimes, after a mini tummy tuck with a smooth recovery, but for a full tummy tuck we recommend about 10 days. By then drains are usually out, the incision has been checked and you can walk comfortably. Your surgeon gives the final fit-to-fly decision. On the flight wear compression stockings, drink water and walk the aisle regularly to reduce the risk of blood clots.
If drains are used, they are usually removed within the first week, once the fluid they collect has slowed to a low level. Removal takes a few seconds at the clinic and feels like a brief pulling sensation. Some patients have a drain-free technique using internal stitches instead. Your surgeon explains which approach suits you, and timing is planned so drains are out before you fly.
Only if your loose skin is limited to a small pouch below the belly button and your muscles have not separated much. Many mothers have skin laxity above the belly button and a muscle gap, which need a full tummy tuck with muscle repair. The C-section scar can usually be removed within the new, low incision. Your surgeon decides after examining you or reviewing your photos.
Most surgeons advise avoiding lifting anything heavier than a light bag for about six weeks, because lifting strains the muscle repair. That includes toddlers. Plan help at home for the first weeks, and practise lifting from a seated position or letting your child climb to you. Your surgeon will tell you when you can return to normal lifting, usually after the six-week review.
Bring loose, front-opening tops, high-waisted soft trousers and slip-on shoes, since bending is difficult at first. Pack compression stockings for the flight and a small pillow for the car and plane. Add your regular medicines, a list of them and any previous medical reports. Your compression garment and aftercare medicines are provided in Istanbul, and your coordinator will send a checklist before you travel.
Only some of them. Stretch marks on the skin that is removed, often the area below the belly button, go with it. Stretch marks above that area remain. A tummy tuck also removes loose skin and usually repairs separated muscles, which diet and exercise cannot do. Results are long lasting if your weight stays stable, but a future pregnancy or large weight gain can stretch the skin and muscles again.
Every tummy tuck leaves a scar; the aim is one that is low, even and discreet, sitting within most underwear. Scars are often pink and firm at first, then flatten and lighten over 12 to 18 months. Once the wound has fully closed, usually after two to three weeks, most surgeons recommend silicone gel or sheets for several months. Gentle massage when advised and strict sun protection for the first year also help.
