Standard VASER liposuction
Contours the abdomen, flanks, back, thighs or arms without deliberately showing muscle.
- Suits
- Defined fat pockets, good skin
- Final result
- 3–6 months
VASER liposuction uses pulsed ultrasound to loosen fat before gentle suction, for precise contouring of fibrous areas such as the back, flanks and male chest. It suits healthy adults near their goal weight with good skin tone. Plan about 7 days in Istanbul.

VASER stands for Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy at Resonance. It is a widely known brand of third-generation ultrasound-assisted liposuction. A slim probe delivers pulsed ultrasound to loosen fat, which is then removed with small cannulas. To compare VASER with other methods, read our ultrasonic liposuction explainer.

Surgeons choose VASER for fibrous fat, precise work near muscle borders and fat that can be used for grafting. Some patients see modest skin contraction, but evidence is limited. VASER does not replace a skin-removal operation.

Contours the abdomen, flanks, back, thighs or arms without deliberately showing muscle.
Sculpts around muscle landmarks for a lined abdomen, visible obliques or a more defined chest and arms.
Harvested fat can be purified and grafted to the buttocks, hips or breasts in the same operation.
Several areas can be combined in one session, within the volume and time limits your surgeon sets. Where two plans are equally reasonable, we favour a shorter operation and a staged second session. For abdominal definition in detail, see six pack surgery.
The energy loosens and partly emulsifies fat cells while largely sparing blood vessels, nerves and connective tissue. Most operations take 2–4 hours, depending on the number of areas.
Areas and, for hi-def, muscle landmarks drawn while you stand.
Usually general anaesthesia.
Numbs tissue, reduces bleeding and conducts the ultrasound energy.
Probe kept moving, with skin ports and timed energy per area.
Fine cannulas remove the loosened fat and refine the contour.
Incisions closed or left to drain; garment with foam pads fitted.
Your exact schedule is confirmed with your plan. Combined procedures may need a longer stay.
Day 1
VIP airport transfer, hotel check-in and a welcome from your patient coordinator and interpreter.
Day 2
Surgeon consultation, blood tests and an anaesthetic check, then VASER liposuction at an accredited partner hospital, with an overnight stay.
Days 3–5
Surgeon review and garment check, then hotel rest with short, frequent walks. A lymphatic drainage session may be recommended.
Days 6–7
A wound and garment check, with any drain removal. Once your surgeon is happy, you fly home in your garment.

Swelling, bruising and tightness are normal, and some fluid drains from the incisions for a day or two. You walk from the first day. Our liposuction recovery in Istanbul guide covers the practical steps.
Expect a smoother, more balanced outline and, with hi-def plans, more visible muscle contours. Fat cells removed do not return, so results last long term if your weight stays stable.
Weight gain can soften definition and fill untreated areas. Lymphatic drainage massage may be advised to ease swelling.

In short: VASER adds a pulsed ultrasound step before suction, which helps in fibrous areas and fine sculpting. Recovery is similar, but the specific risks differ.
| Criterion | VASER liposuction | Traditional tumescent liposuction |
|---|---|---|
| Fat loosening | Pulsed ultrasound before suction | Mechanical cannula movement only |
| Fibrous areas | Well suited | More physically demanding |
| Fine sculpting / hi-def | Commonly used | Possible but less common |
| Specific risks | Thermal injury, seroma | Irregularities in fibrous tissue |
| Recovery | Similar; about 1 week off work | Similar; about 1 week off work |

Every operation carries some risk, and VASER is no exception. Heat is the reason ultrasound-assisted liposuction needs careful technique.

A published series of 261 patients treated with third-generation ultrasound-assisted liposuction reported a low complication rate (PubMed). Results still depend on the surgeon and patient selection. Our article on the side effects of liposuction explains each risk in more depth.
It may help a little. Some studies report modestly better skin contraction after VASER lipo, possibly because the gentle energy and even fat removal help skin redrape. The effect is limited, varies between people and depends heavily on your age and natural elasticity. If you have loose, hanging skin, VASER will not remove it; a skin-tightening operation such as a tummy tuck is usually needed.
Plan around 7 days. You arrive on day 1, have your consultation, tests and surgery on day 2, and spend one night in hospital. You then rest in your hotel with short daily walks. A follow-up around day 6 confirms you are healing well, and most patients fly home on day 7 wearing their compression garment. Combined procedures may need a longer stay.
Usually not. Hi-def sculpting works by shaping the fat that sits over muscles you already have. It gives the most natural result in patients with low body fat, good muscle tone and firm skin. If you carry more fat, standard VASER liposuction first, followed by training, is often safer and looks more natural. Your surgeon will advise after reviewing your photos.
Yes. Fat removed during VASER liposuction can be purified and transferred to the buttocks and hips in the same operation. The combination takes longer, needs strict fat-grafting safety technique, and means you avoid sitting directly on your buttocks for several weeks. Expect to stay closer to 10 days in Istanbul and to wear a garment designed for both areas.
After marking and anaesthesia, the surgeon infiltrates tumescent fluid, then moves a slim ultrasound probe through the fat layer to loosen it. Small cannulas remove the loosened fat and refine the shape. Incisions of a few millimetres are closed or left to drain, and you wake in a compression garment. Most operations take 2–4 hours, depending on the number of areas.
Men most often ask about the flanks, lower back, abdomen and chest, where fat tends to be firmer. Women most often ask about the waist, back, bra line, inner and outer thighs and upper arms. Several areas can be combined in one session, within the volume and operating-time limits your surgeon sets. Where two plans are equally reasonable, we favour a shorter operation and a staged second session.
