Celebrity BBL Results: What They Tell Us About the Procedure

Medically reviewed by Prof. Dr. Özgür Pilancı, Plastic, Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgeon — August 2026
Quick answer (updated August 2026): Most celebrity BBL claims are guesses, because you cannot diagnose surgery from photographs — shapewear, training, weight change, posing and time each produce the changes people point to. Of the artists most searched, Megan Thee Stallion has repeatedly denied having surgery, Doechii has confirmed only unspecified “cosmetic enhancements” without naming a procedure, and Teyana Taylor has confirmed only a breast reduction. What the speculation is good for is understanding the procedure itself — and why illegal injections, which Cardi B has described receiving and warned against, are a different and far more dangerous thing.
Why everyone is asking about celebrity BBLs
Within roughly a decade, the dominant body silhouette in music, film and social media visibly changed, and gluteal fat grafting — the Brazilian butt lift — became one of the world’s fastest-growing cosmetic procedures. Culture writers named the period “the BBL era,” and its effect on beauty standards has been examined at length, including Refinery29’s reporting on what the trend has meant for Black women in particular.
The trend is now widely reported to be reversing. Outlets from Black Enterprise to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons’ own blog have covered the rise of BBL reversals and reductions as the aesthetic moves back toward slimmer silhouettes. That reversal is the first lesson here: a surgical decision made to match a trend outlives the trend. Fat grafting is largely permanent; fashion is not.
Because famous bodies changed so visibly, every prominent woman whose silhouette changes now faces the same question. Sometimes she answers. Usually the internet answers for her — which is where the trouble starts.

Why you cannot diagnose a BBL from photos
Here is the honest core of this article, and it comes from the surgical side, not the gossip side: no surgeon can reliably tell you from photographs whether someone had a BBL.
Five ordinary things produce the changes people read as surgical. Shapewear compresses the waist and repositions soft tissue — stage and red-carpet outfits are engineered around it. Training genuinely builds the gluteal muscles, changing projection in a way that photographs exactly like added volume. Weight change redistributes fat, and where the body places it is genetic. Posing and lighting are the craft of celebrity photography: an arched back, a three-quarter angle and low light do more than most procedures. And timeline matters — a photo at nineteen against one at thirty compares two different bodies regardless of surgery.
Viral before-and-after comparisons almost never control for any of these. That is why this article treats every unconfirmed claim as exactly that.

What the public record actually says
Megan Thee Stallion — has denied it, on the record. Asked about surgery rumors on Hot 97 in 2019, she said her body is real — “the jiggle is different when it’s real” — and in April 2024 she dismissed renewed speculation on Instagram, pointing out, as XXL and Complex reported, that she has worked continuously since 2017 and asking when she would have had time for surgical recovery. Her gym routine is heavily documented. So does Megan Thee Stallion have a BBL has a short answer: she says no, and no evidence contradicts her. Her recovery point is a real one — gluteal fat grafting involves weeks of avoiding direct sitting pressure, difficult to hide mid-tour.
Doechii — has confirmed enhancements, but never a BBL. In December 2024, responding to a follower on TikTok, Doechii said she had “already had cosmetic enhancements since like 2021,” while telling fans to stop treating cosmetic surgery as something to shame women over — coverage ran in People and NewBeauty. She has never said what those enhancements were, and no reporting confirms a BBL. So the accurate answer to the most-searched question on this page is: she has chosen not to specify, and that is her right. Speculation beyond her own words is exactly that.
Teyana Taylor — no BBL confirmation exists. Taylor has spoken openly about one procedure only: a breast reduction after the birth of her first daughter, as reported by Essence. Her physique is also among the most heavily trained in entertainment — her dance and gym regime is extensively documented. No statement from her confirms gluteal surgery, and this article will not supply one.

What a BBL actually involves

Since the question behind the question is usually “what would that procedure actually be,” here is the procedure, plainly. A Brazilian butt lift is gluteal fat grafting: fat is harvested by liposuction from the abdomen, flanks, back or thighs, processed, and reinjected into the buttocks to add volume and shape. The liposuction side of the operation — narrowing the waist to change the ratio — often does as much visual work as the added volume; our Vaser liposuction page covers that side.
Typically 60–80% of the transferred fat survives long term; the rest is reabsorbed over the first months, which is why results are judged at three to six months, not at three weeks.
Safety is the part worth understanding best. Gluteal fat grafting once carried the highest mortality in cosmetic surgery, driven by fat injected into deep muscle entering the gluteal veins and travelling to the lungs.
A 2017 task force of the Aesthetic Surgery Education and Research Foundation confirmed 25 US deaths over five years, and professional bodies now advise that fat be placed only in the subcutaneous plane above the gluteal fascia, never into muscle, with support for real-time ultrasound guidance and accredited facilities. The evidence that this worked is striking: a 2024 report surveying board-certified surgeons found zero pulmonary fat embolisms — fatal or non-fatal — across 12,172 cases in 2019–2021 after subcutaneous-only injection became near-universal among those surveyed, against two deaths in 22,800 cases in the earlier period. Those recommendations are the basis of the two questions at the end of this article.
The dangerous thing that is not a BBL
The most instructive celebrity account on record is about something else entirely. In her April 2018 GQ interview, Cardi B described paying about $800 for illegal buttock injections in a basement apartment in Queens — unregulated filler, injected outside any medical setting, with days of pain afterward. In the years since, as Billboard, Newsweek and TODAY have reported, she has had most of the injected material surgically removed and has told fans directly not to do what she did.
Her account matters because illegal injections are not a BBL — no fat, no surgeon, no sterile field, no plane control. Unregulated silicone injected at so-called “pumping parties” causes embolism, tissue death, disfigurement and death, sometimes years later; the US FDA has formally warned that injectable silicone for body contouring can kill. If one sentence here is worth remembering: a cheap injection in a private home is not a budget version of surgery — it is a different act with a documented death toll.
Cost, honestly — and the two questions that matter
In Istanbul, a BBL typically runs £3,400–£6,400 depending on the extent of liposuction and what the package includes — the market context in which our clinic operates. Our BBL in Turkey guide breaks down what is and is not usually included, and our before-and-after gallery shows how results should be documented — same angle, same lighting, months apart.
If celebrity curiosity brought you here and you are genuinely considering the procedure, take the two questions that matter more than any price or any famous example. Ask the surgeon: which plane do you inject into, and do you use ultrasound guidance? The answer professional bodies support is subcutaneous only, above the fascia, never intramuscular. Then ask where the surgery happens and whether the facility is accredited. A surgeon who answers those questions plainly has told you more than any celebrity photograph ever will.

Frequently Asked Questions
Did Doechii have a BBL?
She has never said so, and no credible reporting confirms it. What Doechii has confirmed, on her own TikTok in December 2024, is that she has had unspecified “cosmetic enhancements since like 2021” — while telling followers to stop shaming women for their choices. She has not named any procedure, and speculation that fills that gap is guesswork. The accurate answer is that she has chosen not to specify.
Does Megan Thee Stallion have a BBL?
She has denied having surgery, more than once and on the record — Hot 97 in 2019, and Instagram in April 2024, where she noted she has worked continuously since 2017 with no time for surgical recovery. That is a fair point: gluteal fat grafting requires weeks of avoiding direct sitting pressure. No evidence contradicts her denials.
Did Teyana Taylor have a BBL?
There is no confirmation of any kind. The only procedure Taylor has publicly discussed is a breast reduction after the birth of her first daughter, as reported by Essence, and she is known for an intense training regime. Claims beyond that are speculation — a dancer’s physique across a decade of photographs has many non-surgical explanations.
Can you tell if someone had a BBL from photos?
No — not reliably, and anyone claiming otherwise is guessing. Shapewear, strength training, weight change, posing, lighting and time each produce the silhouette changes usually cited as evidence, and viral comparisons almost never control for any of them. Even surgeons can only speak in probabilities from photographs, which is why responsible clinics do not “diagnose” celebrities.
What is the difference between a BBL and butt injections?
A BBL is a surgical procedure in which your own fat is moved by liposuction and grafting, performed under anesthesia in a medical facility. Illegal “butt injections” — silicone or other fillers injected outside medical settings — have killed people, which is why the FDA warns against injectable silicone for body contouring. Cardi B, who described receiving illegal injections and later having them removed, has told fans not to repeat her experience.
Is a BBL safe now?
Considerably safer than a decade ago, for a specific reason. Deaths were traced to fat injected into deep muscle entering the gluteal veins; professional bodies then recommended injecting only into the subcutaneous plane above the fascia. One 2024 survey found zero fatal or non-fatal pulmonary fat embolisms across 12,172 cases in 2019–2021 after that change was widely adopted, against two deaths in 22,800 cases in 2016–2018. Safety now depends on the individual surgeon’s plane control and facility — which is what to ask about.
How much does a BBL cost in Turkey?
In Istanbul the typical range is £3,400–£6,400, varying with how much liposuction is involved and what the package covers — substantially below usual UK and US pricing. Compare what is actually included rather than the headline number, and weigh the safety questions above at least as heavily as the price.
