Doç. Dr. Ali Durmuş associate professor of general surgery and pioneer of laparoscopic bariatric surgery in Turkey

Doç. Dr. Ali Durmuş first trained as a teacher at Çanakkale Education Institute and served in a village school in Ağrı before re-sitting the university examination and entering Erciyes University Faculty of Medicine, where he completed his medical education in English. He served as emergency department chief at İskenderun State Hospital during his mandatory service.

After the Medical Specialization Examination he specialized in general surgery at Okmeydanı Training and Research Hospital, concentrating on oncology and laparoscopic surgery. He contributed to the development of advanced laparoscopic procedures in Turkey, including sleeve gastrectomy, gastric bypass, reflux surgery and stomach and colon cancer surgery, and between 2002 and 2015 trained dozens of residents who went on to become general surgeons.

Since 2015 he has taught at Nişantaşı University, and in 2017 he founded Klinik Obezite, where he continues to perform advanced laparoscopic and bariatric surgery. He is known for a compassionate, patient-centred approach that follows each patient from the first consultation through recovery, with an emphasis on education and personalized planning.
